AVID

Advancement Via Individual Determination

The AVID program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) launched at McMinnville High School during the 2015-16 school year with two freshman classes.  AVID is an international program designed to increase college attendance among students traditionally underrepresented in higher education. AVID trains educators to use specific research‐based strategies and curriculum to prepare students for academic success by developing students’ critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas.

  • Teaches skills and behaviors for academic success
  • Provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships
  • Creates a positive peer group for students
  • Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination

The MHS implementation of AVID was supported by grants from the Nike School Innovation Fund.
