Pathway: Cosmetology

Opening 2025-26 School Year!

The Cosmetology Pathway offers high school students a comprehensive introduction to various careers in the beauty industry, including hair design, nail technology, barbering, and esthetics. Through a blend of hands-on training and theoretical learning, students will develop essential skills in these specialized areas while gaining knowledge of industry standards and techniques. By exploring both the creative and business aspects of cosmetology, students will be prepared for certification and further post-secondary education in the field.

This course provides students with foundational skills in haircutting, barbering, and styling. Through hands-on practice and instruction, students will learn basic techniques in hair shaping, grooming, and creative styling, preparing them for further studies in the field.

This course introduces students to essential techniques in nail care, skincare, and beauty treatments. Students will gain hands-on experience in manicures and esthetics, preparing them for advanced training in the beauty and wellness industry.

Cosmetology Lab 1 (25-26)

In this course, students will select a focus area for their lab work: Hair Design, Barbering, Nail Technology, or Esthetics. Throughout the course, students will receive theory instruction, observe instructor demonstrations, and engage in supervised hands-on practice in their chosen focus area. The hours completed in this course will count towards fulfilling the competency requirements for their selected discipline.

Students may enroll in this Lab either to continue accumulating hours toward completing their competency in a previously selected focus area or to explore a new area of specialization and work toward an additional competency. Whether continuing or starting a new focus, students will engage in advanced, supervised practice, building on prior knowledge or gaining new skills, while completing the required hours for certification in their chosen field(s). (This course can be taken at the same time as Lab 1.)

Successful completion of Cosmetology Lab 1 or concurrent enrollment

Students may enroll in this Lab either to continue accumulating hours toward completing their competency in a previously selected focus area or to explore a new area of specialization and work toward an additional competency. Whether continuing or starting a new focus, students will engage in advanced, supervised practice, building on prior knowledge or gaining new skills, while completing the required hours for certification in their chosen field(s). (This course can be taken at the same time as Lab 1 and/or 2.)

Prerequisites:
Successful completion of Cosmetology Lab 2 or concurrent enrollment
Students who have successfully completed the introduction courses and have one semester of competency in cosmetology can apply to be cosmetology interns. This course could allow for an internship placement, a job shadow rotation within local businesses, or serving the community via in-house services in the campus salon.
