A review of the criminal justice system and procedures from criminal violation to final disposition. Covers six primary functional areas of administration of justice and reviews principles of federal, state, criminal, and civil laws as they apply to and affect law enforcement.
This course covers the development and conceptualization of crime including historical perspective, social and legal definitions and classifications. Includes an overview of criminology, research, data gathering and analysis. Introduces major theoretical perspectives on the nature of crime, criminals, and victimization along with current trends and patterns of crime typologies and responses to them.
This class teaches the techniques and skills used to investigate crimes. Hands-on labs on the history of forensic science, DNA, hair and fingerprint identification, blood analysis, bullet impact patterns, shatter patterns, toxicology, profiling and more.
Students will learn the basic Search & Rescue techniques, requirements, and qualifications. They will learn the principles and skills necessary to: prepare for the search, locate the subject, access and treat the subject, and extricate the subject.
This course will provide opportunities for students to observe how basic and advanced skills are used in the Law related areas. Internship hours will be completed outside of school hours and students need their own transportation.
